Authorities ID man who died in house fire

A Charlotte man who died early Sunday in a house fire has been identified as Robert Wilson, a 45-year-old employee in the city’s Solid Waste Department.

The fire was reported at about 2:44 p.m. in the 5200 block of Elderbank Drive, just off Beatties Ford Road near Hornet’s Nest Park.

When firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke and flames venting from the roof of a split-level home. Thirty firefighters worked 23 minutes to bring the fire under control, the department reported.

Investigators determined the fire was caused by an electrical problem.
