A four-year-old boy died after suffering a self-inflicted gunshot wound in southeast Charlotte on Wednesday evening.
According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, around 7:30 p.m., officers responded to a call for an assist medic in the 1900 block of Charleston Place.
When officers got there, they found the child with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Medic transported the child to a local hospital with life threatening injuries. He was later pronounced deceased, police said.

Dayshawn Warren, the victim’s father, was interviewed by police following the incident.
Warren, 25, was later charged with involuntary manslaughter and improper storage of a firearm.
CMPD has yet to released information on how the child got the gun.
