Starting today, North Carolina’s county boards of elections will begin mailing absentee ballots to registered voters who request them for the 2022 general election.

Election Day — Nov. 8 — is still 60 days away.

As of yesterday, nearly 53,000 N.C. voters had requested an absentee ballot, according to the State Board of Elections.

More than 7.35 million people are registered to vote in North Carolina.

Nov. 1 is the deadline to request an absentee ballot, but why wait?

In July, the state board rejected a Republican proposal that would have given county election boards authority to scrutinize signatures on mail-in ballots.

Another important Date: Oct. 14 is the registration deadline for those who plan to vote on Election Day.
